UnfairAdvantage

About

Who is writing this, and why.

Paul Hughes

I spent more than 40 years in IT and management consulting, in over 30 countries, installing the systems big organizations run on.

In 2019 I settled in Kingsville, Ontario and started Doorways Into Your Business, fitting those same systems to businesses with a handful of people. Unfair Advantage is where I write down what works, what it costs, and what to skip.

My longer story

Why the name

For most of my career, the tools that made a big company look big cost more than a small business earned. Those tools now cost less than a lunch a month, and a three-person business can run them.

The advantage has flipped, because a small business can change course before lunch and a big one takes a quarter. That is the unfair part, and this site exists to hand it over.

How this site makes money

It does not. There is nothing to buy here, no sponsored posts, and no affiliate links in the tool recommendations. When I name a price it is the price I found, on the date shown.

What pays for it is the other side of my week. If you would rather have these systems fitted than build them yourself, and you are in Kingsville or the Windsor-Essex Region, that work goes through Doorways Into Your Business. Anywhere else in Canada, ask me and I will point you at the right tool without any of that.

The relationship to Doorways Into Your Business

Doorways Into Your Business is my practice in Kingsville, Ontario. It installs these systems for local businesses.

Unfair Advantage is the publication, and it is Canada-wide. The practice publishes it, which is why the footer carries the credit and the mailing address, but the writing is not a sales pitch for it. If a tactic is better done yourself, the article says so.

Questions are welcome either way: helpme at unfairadvantage dot biz.
