What this site collects, and what happens to it.

Short version: analytics that count visits, three forms that email me what you type, and a weekly list you have to tick a box to join. Nothing is sold or shared.

Who runs this site

Unfair Advantage is published by Doorways Into Your Business, 3 Brookside Court, Kingsville, ON N9Y 4B3, Canada. Questions about anything on this page go to helpme at unfairadvantage dot biz.

Analytics, and the cookie banner

The site can use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which articles get read. It records things like the page you viewed, roughly where you are, and what kind of device you used. It does not tell me who you are.

It only runs if you say yes. Until you accept, nothing is loaded from Google, no request leaves your browser for it, and no analytics cookie is set. Declining is one click, the same size and colour as accepting, and no answer counts as a no. You can change your mind any time with , which is also in the footer of every page.

Your answer is kept in your browser’s local storage, not in a cookie, and nothing about it is sent to me. I ask again after a year. If your browser blocks site storage the answer cannot be remembered, so the banner reappears and analytics stays off.

Analytics runs only on unfairadvantage.biz itself. Preview and test versions of the site do not report, and consent given on one of them does not switch it on either. Both of those are checked in the code rather than assumed, by a script that runs before every deploy.

The three forms

Every form on this site sends what you type to my mailbox and nowhere else. Each one also records which page you submitted from and when, so I can tell a weekly sign-up from a question.

  • The weekly email. First name, email address, and whether you ticked the consent box.
  • Ask a question. Name, email address, what kind of business if you filled it in, and your question.
  • The score. Your answers are worked out in your browser and are not sent anywhere. If you choose the optional email step at the end, your email address, your score out of 12 and the three advantages you scored lowest on are sent with it.

Forms are protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks that a submission comes from a person rather than a script. Email is delivered by SMTP2GO.

The weekly email

You only get it if you tick the box, and the box is never ticked for you. The wording you agree to is:

Yes, send me the weekly tactic from Paul Hughes at Unfair Advantage, published by Doorways Into Your Business, 3 Brookside Court, Kingsville, Ontario N9Y 4B3. I can unsubscribe any time.

Every email has an unsubscribe link, and asking me by reply works just as well. Right now the sign-ups sit in my mailbox rather than in a mailing-list tool. If that changes, this page changes with it before anything moves.

What I do not do

  • Sell, rent or share your address with anyone.
  • Use affiliate links in the tool recommendations.
  • Run advertising, or the tracking that comes with it.

Asking for your information, or its removal

Write to helpme at unfairadvantage dot biz and ask what I hold about you, or ask me to delete it. Either one is fine, and you do not have to give a reason.
